Before recounting the events of Tuesday, I should bring everyone up to date on the status of Norman and Deidre's alternator problem. After dinner last evening a group returned to the home of Lynn and Jan where a fresh new alternator awaited them. After 3 hours work (most of which was spent trying to fit the belt), the car was charging once again.

We all met up at Lynn and Jan's house on Tuesday morning where they kindly provided us with coffee and cinnamon rolls before our departure. In addition to Lynn and Jan (BRG Series 1.5 OTS), and Drew and Mary Scherz (black Toyota Camry rental - their E-Type is being prepared for next years OL) who joined us last night for dinner, we were joined by Michael and Denise Jenkins (Light Blue S2 2+2).

Almost ready to go... |
We departed at just after 9am, and due to multiple warnings that we'd received about road construction work on our planned route along ID-55, we took a detour to US-95. It was a pleasant morning with clear skies and temperatures in the 70s. We now had 6 E-types in convoy, plus a Boxster and Camry.

Around 12:30pm we arrived at New Meadows and stopped for lunch at the Intersection BBQ Grill and Bar. There we had a great lunch.

Unfortunately, our departure form New Meadows was delayed by almost an hour while the restaurant staff tried to sort out their computerized ticket/billing system. Fortunately, our schedule today was more relaxed, so we could afford the time.
The route took us north on US-95 through beautiful countryside with little traffic.

The route passed through Riggins and Lucille as the valley narrowed by the river. At one point we had a short shower of rain, which resulted in a stop to raise the hoods of most (but not all) OTSs.

At White Bird, Lynn took us off highway US-95 and down onto the old highway 95. What followed was a treat for all the drivers, and maybe a little scary for the passengers who had time to think...

The sign by the road was a clue as to what was to come... |
The narrow back road climbed steeply in a series of hairpin bends for several miles, and we all got an opportunity to exercise our cars abilities. Lynn led the way at a great pace, and the rest of us followed as fast as we could. When we reached the top, there were smiles all round (on the driver's faces, at least!), and temperature gauges close to the Red Zone!

Once we had refueled in Grangeville, we continued our drive towards Lewiston.By now the road was more busy, so the group became split up as we passed slower traffic.

More traffic one the road as we head into Lewiston |
As we descended into Lewiston, it became distinctly warmer, and we were happy to get into the air-conditioned lobby of our hotel, the Red Lion in Lewiston. There we were joined by Richard and Christine Kuschel (who also participated in the NWOL in 2012). In the evening, we took a walk (longer than we expected!) to the Seasons restaurant where we had a great dinner. David Drake has taken the lead suggesting restaurants along our way, and once again he picked a great place!

Tomorrow, we head north to Kettle Falls, Washington, close to the Canadian border...
