The 5th Annual Oil Leak is under way! To be strictly correct, the British Columbia Oil Leak (BCOL) does not start officially under Monday 12th in Lakeview, Oregon, but some of the participants are already on the road to travel there. The California contingent, made up of Jerry Mouton, David Drake, Lloyd Nolan, and David Langley set out today. Jerry and David are driving Jerry's Porsche Boxster S, as a result of MIK Jaguar's unfortunate demise a couple of weeks ago. A desperate rush to get the car back together just failed to meet the deadline, so we will have a Porsche for company this year. The drive to Lakeview, Oregon would have been too much for one day, so we split the route into two comfortable days, breaking at Red Bluff, California. Lloyd and David L convoyed together from Carmel Valley, and met up with Jerry and David D in Milpitas. After coffee, we drove northwards up I680, I505 and I5. Traffic slowed our progress somewhat, but it was a pleasant day with temperatures in the 70s and 80s for most of the way. We stopped for a late lunch at The Last Stand in Willows - a classic local burger bar.

We hid our "forin" cars round the back. Didn't want to make trouble..... |

Having tired of I5 and with plenty of time to spare we took the back roads to Red Bluff visiting the town of Chico on the way. The center of the town with its university campus and tree-lined streets with older houses was a pleasant surprise.
Unfortunately, Lloyd's primrose E-type shredded it's second A/C compressor belt in the past 3 days during the drive, so once we arrived in Red Bluff he went searching for a replacement. Other than that, the cars ran well. Tomorrow we plan to drive to Lakeview, OR via the Lassen Volcanic National Park. It should make for an enjoyable day.
